Hyderabad: The individual decision of Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy to participate in the debate on power situation in the State on Saturday, post-walkout by his party members, has left Congress MLAs shocked.

The Congress MLAs were on the offensive in the morning. They tried to stall the proceedings by raising the issue of undue delay on the part of the Speaker in taking a decision on the defections from opposition parties to TRS and were suspended for the day.

This provoked Jana Reddy to strongly criticise the government for its “undemocratic style of functioning”. He even said that the Chair was ignoring the Opposition and staged a walkout. A little later, he made a volte face and participated in the debate on power situation.

Earlier, following the suspension of the MLAs, the Congress Legislative Party members met in the CLP office. Jana Reddy, who chaired the meeting, said that they should move a privilege motion against Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao.

Even as the members were welcoming this by thumping of the desk, Reddy got up and said that he was going into the House to take part in the debate. Taken aback, the MLAs reasoned with Jana Reddy that it would not be a proper move.

But the CLP leader did not listen to them and participated in the debate, along with TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy.

This has left the Congress MLAs perplexed and they now feel that the Leader of Opposition would create more problems for them in the days to come. They said that they would bring this issue to the notice of the party high command.
