Hyderabad: To complement industrial development of the State, Telangana government is considering the establishment of dry ports, which are easily accessible to multi-modal logistics. With a total cost of Rs 3,690 crore these transportation hubs will be completed by 2018.

While responding during question hour in the Legislative Council on Wednesday, Minister for Industries K T Rama Rao explained that the State being land locked requires dry ports to encourage industries which are port based.

Accordingly, the government has engaged Ernst & Young Consultants for preparing Techno Economic Feasibility Report for setting up of dry ports in the State.

The selection of sites would depend on factors such as presence of industries which are dependent on dry port, proximity to highways, railways and distance from the port.

Another crucial factor would be the availability of land parcel of size 1,000 to 2,000 acres. Considering these factors, the consultants have suggested one dry port to east or south east of Hyderabad and another on west side of the city, he
explained.

The Minister also said that the construction of dry ports is among the priorities of the government and respectively four corridors were proposed by the consultants.

These include Bhongir-Chityal-Choutuppal (well connected to NH 65), Jadcherla-Shadnagar (on Bengaluru Highway), Zaheerabad Industrial Corridor, Miryalguda –Sur yapet- Damercherla (connecting Hyderabad-Guntur).

He said that the dry ports would be better than the 1000 acre dry port of Haryana which is underway. “There are three types of models PPP, Joint Venture or completely under government.

We are pursuing the matter with the Central government for seeking assistance in terms of grant. Depending on this decision the development model will be decided,” he said.
