Hyderabad: Marketing Minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday said the State government would set up at least two ‘Mana Kuragayalu’ stores in all the 150 divisions of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the scheme would be later extended to other Municipal Corporations.

In reply to a question raised by M Sudheer Reddy who urged the government to open at least two such stores in each division in GHMC limits, the Minister said the government had established 21 collection centres in erstwhile three districts Rangareddy, Medak and Mahbubnagar,

one distribution centre at Bowenpally Agricultural Market Committee and 19 retail outlets in twin cities. Approximately 100 quintals of farm produce was being handled on a daily basis and providing marketing by this project.

He said presently, the department was concentrating on catering to the needs of people in twin cities on pilot basis.

He said the aim of the government was to provide good remuneration to the farmers and also bring stability in prices of vegetables in the market.

The government was using electronic weighing machines, so that the farmers would not suffer on account of wrong measurement. It was also providing marketing facility, he said.

Replying to another question, Harish Rao said the city required 3,000 tonnes of vegetables at the rate of 300 grams per individual.

He said that earlier the vegetables used to come from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, but now the State government was promoting vegetable cultivation by giving 75 per cent subsidy under polyhouse and drip irrigation farming and was providing marketing facility at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore.

The Minister said that to begin with 100 stores would be established in Hyderabad and later it would be extended to other Municipal Corporations.
