Hyderabad: The Telangana government is examining a proposal of implementing a sub-plan for the welfare of backward classes, a state minister said here today.

Replying to query in the Legislative Assembly, Backward Classes Welfare Minister Jogu Ramanna said the proposal of making a sub-plan for backward classes is being considered by the state government.

The sub-plan is made to ensure that funds are used for the welfare of the community in different areas.
Sub-plans were made for Scheduled Classes and Scheduled Tribes during the previous Congress government in the undivided Andhra Pradesh.

In his reply, the minister also said the state government has formed a Backward Classes Commission to study problems of weaker sections for their empowerment.

The government introduced a new scheme - Mahatma Jyotiba Phule BC Overseas Vidya Nidhi - for the benefit of students belonging to Backward Classes for pursuing higher studies abroad from 2016-17, he said.
