Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's decision to waive Rs 3,920 crore arrears of the weaker sections housing schemes and Rajiv Gruhakalpa scheme received mixed response from the Opposition.

While Congress leader Jana Reddy thanked the Chief Minister for the waiver, TDP leader Shabbir Ali accused the government of shielding the corrupt from the earlier regime who later joined TRS.

Speaking in the Assembly, KCR disclosed that the state government won't revive the Housing Corporation and would only build 2BHK houses.

Informing that the government intends to construct 2.6 lakh double bedroom houses before the next elections, he stated that the tender process is currently in progress with 14,224 houses have been finalized and 1,217 had been constructed.

Talking about the delay, KCR said that the house tenders were busy with Mission Kakatiya, Mission Bhagiratha, irrigation projects and roads construction adding that the there was no shortage of funds as Rs 17,660 crore has been allotted for the project along with Centre agreeing to give Rs 1.5 lakh per house.
