Hyderabad: The proposed dharna of Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) at Indira Park on Thursday against the forcible land acquisition by the State government has been cancelled as the police denied permission.

The JAC had proposed to take up the dharna with those who had lost land under land acquisition for various irrigation projects across the State.

The JAC made arrangements to bring the land losers to the Dharna Chowk. Many families, who were losing their lands had attended the TJAC’s ‘Nirvasitula Sadassu’, an awareness programme recently and pledged to attend the dharna on Thursday.

However, on Wednesday, the JAC leaders said since the police had denied permission, they decided to postpone the dharna. Earlier in the day, JAC chairman Prf Kodandaram met DGP Anurag Sharma and sought permission for the dharna.

The DGP, according to Kodandaram, said he was unaware of the matter and promised to talk to the concerned officials. Kodandaram said like others the land losers also had the right to take up protest.

He said the Land Acquisition Act passed by the State government would have harsh impact on farmers and land losers.

He said the Act would be like GO 123, which would help in forcible acquisition and there would be less compensation.
