Hyderabad: The State government will be spending Rs 5, 000 per bed every month in government hospitals for patient care, sanitation, security and pest control. Under the new policy ‘Integrated Hospitals Facility Management Services’ (IHFMS), the amount will be sanctioned as part of maintenance in providing better amenities shortly.

This was stated during question hour by the Health Minister C Laxma Reddy. The Minister said that the government was trying to provide facilities in government hospitals on par with corporate hospitals. At present, Rs 2,500 was being given per bed but once the new policy is adopted everything will be integrated including sanitation and patient’s care. The Finance department has cleared the proposal, he said.

Answering a separate question on acceptance of ‘health cards’ by corporate hospitals, Minister said that the government has tied up with several corporate hospitals on December 17, besides scores of other hospitals, where wellness centre is also being operated for Out Patients.

He said that out of 254 hospitals, 14 were corporate hospitals covered under the health scheme, as these hospitals have recently become a part of the scheme. He informed that 200 out-patients visit Khairatabad’s wellness centre daily.

These centres will be further spread to other areas including Malakpet, Kukatpally and all the district head quarters in future. On the issue of health awareness programmes, he informed that all the Public Health Centres and other Health Centres were taking up Child Health and Immunisation programme.
