Hyderabad: The Opposition on Thursday stayed away from the Assembly in protest against “unfair attitude” by the TRS and the Speaker towards them in the House. Talking to the media, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president and MLA N Uttam Kumar Reddy expressed his displeasure over the Speaker not giving a chance to Congress members.

He was giving mike only when the Leader of Opposition of K Jana Reddy got up. There were many other senior members and the Speaker should give equal opportunity to all. He also took objection to the jibes that were being made by the Minister for Legislative Affairs against the Opposition parties.

TDP floor leader A Revanth Reddy demanded that the Speaker call a meeting of floor leaders of all parties to sort out the issue. He said it was unfortunate that they were not being given opportunity to speak. This had forced them to boycott the proceedings, he said.

Revanth said that the Speaker had submitted an affidavit in the court citing the number of TDP members as 15. But in reality, he was considering the TDP strength as only three members. He alleged that the Speaker had failed to protect the rights of the Opposition members.

CPI(M) MLA Sunnam Rajaiah took strong objection to the remarks made by KCR on his party while referring to the Mallannasagar Project in the State Assembly on Wednesday. In a letter submitted to the Speaker on Thursday, he demanded an apology from the Chief Minister for his remarks against CPI (M).

He said if the Chief Minister failed to withdraw his remarks, he urged Speaker to take action against KCR. The MLA also staged a protest on the road facing the Gandhi statue in the Assembly. The Chief Minister is understood to have spoken to Rajaiah over phone.
