Gangaram (Peddapalli district): Many people responded positively to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to forego subsidy on LPG connections.

However, people of two villages in Peddapalli district went one step ahead and surrendered their white ration cards to District Collector Alagu Varshini inviting her to the villages.

The villagers of Gangaram and Usnapalli have given their consent in writing while surrendering their white ration cards to the District Collector stating that they do not need the rice under the public distribution system and the same could be given to the needy people elsewhere.

They said that the 280 units of rice allotted to the two villages should be distributed to the poor elsewhere. They hoped that it would reduce the burden on the government.

The Collector, while addressing the meeting, appreciated the gesture of the villagers and hoped that the people of other villages would take a cue from them.

Shankar Reddy, chairman of Irrigation Development Authority, who hails from Usnapalli, felt happy that the people of his native village have chosen to surrender white ration cards.

Konukanti Malla Reddy of Gangaram village said that the rice produced by them in their fields was sufficient to feed their families.

Kavita of Usnapalli said that they have decided against taking ration rice since they have enough rice from their fields.
