Help govt in land acquisition, Harish urges MLAs

Hyderabad: Irrigation and Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao on Tuesday sought the help of MLAs in completing the process of land acquisition so that irrigation projects taken up by the State government could be completed on schedule.

Replying to a question in the House on the modernisation of Bunadigani Canal, Pillipalli canal and Dharma Reddy canal in Yadadri district, the Minister said the works would be completed within 18 months from the time of completion of land acquisition.

He pointed out that if the local leaders could convince farmers to go for a crop holiday and encourage them to provide lands needed for modernisation of the works; the projects could be completed in a time frame of six to eight months, he said.

Harish said that the modernisation works with enhanced carrying capacity of the three canals would benefit about 61,012 acres of ayacut.
