Mahbubnagar: Labour, police as well as women and child welfare departments conducted ‘Operation Smile’ drive in the district and rescued 48 children and later handed them over to the Children State Home rehabilitation center.

“We have been conducting ‘Operation Smile’ to rescue small children working as labourers in bakeries, hotels, tea stalls, and brick kilns etc. in the district.

During the past two days, we have rescued 48 children aged below 18 years and working in hotels, tea stalls and other areas, and handed them over to the rehabilitation center.

We will continue this drive for the next one month and book cases against all those who are appointing under-age children for work,” said Narmada, from Women and Child Welfare Department, Mahabubnagar.

On Thursday, the authorities of Labour, Child welfare and Police Departments worked in coordination and rescued 15 children from Devarkadra, Marikal and Narayanpeta.
