Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials have been spending more time on review meetings rather than executing various works at the ground level.

This is not just an allegation but a fact which was admitted even by Mayor Bonthu Rammohan. The executive staff including deputy commissioners and others told The Hans India that the corporation has conducted more than 60 meetings in past three months.

They said that the corporation head office officials have been giving them multiple tasks which were affecting the execution of the works which were discussed at the previous review meeting.

A senior circle level officer on condition of anonymity said that the corporation had conducted more than 60 meetings in past 90 days. While it is difficult to say what exactly was the outcome of these meetings, the fact remains that the progress of the ongoing works has taken a beating.

Another official said that at one review meeting officials instruct zonal deputy commissioners to concentrate on property tax collection and at the very next day the same authorities ask them to identify dilapidated buildings, rationalise the properties, improve road conditions and sanitation. It is impossible to achieve the targets when they keep changing so fast, he rued.

When asked about it the Mayor said that it has come to his notice that the GHMC officials have been spending more time on meetings than executing works.

He said the Corporation is contemplating to use advanced Polycom's video conferencing system, where officials can be at the ground level attending to their tasks and at the same time participate in the meeting wherever they are.

When asked if would add to the financial burden of the corporation, Rammohan said the video conferencing system would be much cheaper compared to the fuel charges the officers spend to attend review meetings.
