Hyderabad: Congress MLA from Kalwakurthy Ch Vamshichand Reddy alleged that the ruling party had been unofficially diverting water from Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme (LKIS) to Dindi.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Assembly, the Congress MLA alleged that the Kalwakurthy scheme was meant to provide irrigation water to 69,000 acres of ayacut, besides drinking water to people in the area.

However, the ruling party had been resorting to water theft and was diverting the water to Dindi, he alleged and said people of Kalwakurthy were facing acute drinking water problem due to this.

Reddy pointed out that Irrigation officials had been coming under pressure from the ruling party bigwigs and were diverting water to Dindi project. The member, demanding an assurance, rushed to the Well of the House.

Though the Minister for Legislative Affairs wanted to move a motion to suspend the member, Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary directed the Irrigation Minister to call Reddy for a meeting and resolve the issue.
