Pension scheme for single women in Telangana
Around three lakh single women in the State who are in dire straits and are struggling to make their both ends meet will be given a lifetime pension of Rs 1,000 per month.
Hyderabad: Around three lakh single women in the State who are in dire straits and are struggling to make their both ends meet will be given a lifetime pension of Rs 1,000 per month.
This scheme will come into effect from next financial year.
Announcing this in the State Assembly here on Friday, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said the District Collectors were being instructed to start registering details of single women in their respective districts.
“The government will issue orders on the scheme immediately,” the Chief Minister said.
Explaining the reasons behind taking such a decision, the Chief Minister said poverty inflicted more misery among women than men.
It had come to the notice of the government that several women were eking out a living by rolling beedis in some parts of the State, he said.
“The hard work put in by them does not fetch them enough money to sustain their families, and hence the government decided to step in and give them some financial assistance,” he said, and recalled various measures initiated by the State government like Aaasra pension, Shaadi Mubarak and Kalyana Laxmi aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the poor.
Urging eligible women in the State to get their names registered under the scheme, Rao said all the legislators should also take the responsibility of helping eligible women in getting registered.
The government would also allocate funds for this scheme in the ensuing annual budget of the State in March, the Chief Minister said.
“Generally, political parties, to a greater extent, try to implement the programmes and schemes that they have promised in their respective election manifestos.
But our government has gone a step ahead and is taking measures to render justice to the poor whenever it comes across any such problem,” he added.
