Home Secretary pedals for a cause

Karimnagar: Well known for his bicycle expeditions to propagate fitness among the police personnel, Telangana Principal Secretary (Home, Vigilance and Enforcement), Rajiv Trivedi pedalled all the way to Karimnagar from Hyderabad, 175-kilometer distance on Sunday. And this time around for a different cause – ‘Go Cashless’.

The 56-year-old 1986 batch IPS officer‘s passion for cycling long distances came to fore when he embarked on a 600-km bicycle triathlon to commemorate the 150 years of Indian Police Service from Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad in 2013.

Later, he travelled to TSSP 7th Battalion headquarters at Dichpally in Nizamabad district from Hyderabad in January 2015.

A month later, the fitness freak went to 12th Battalion at Anneparthy in Nalgonda district as part of his plan to visit all the TSSP battalions across Telangana to set an example in maintaining fitness.

On Sunday, Trivedi along with his two sons, set out early in the morning at around 4 am and bicycled his way to Siddipet district headquarters where he took part in a programme to encourage cashless transactions in view of cash crunch following demonetisation of high-valued currency notes in the country.

By 2.30 pm, he reached Karimnagar. During his expedition, he met students of several engineering colleges and told them the importance of adapting cashless transactions.

Trivedi said, “Cashless transactions invariably help to bolster the country’s economy as it lets no scope to evade income tax or any other tax by the people.” He also stressed the importance of maintaining physical fitness.

As Trivedi, along with his sons, pedalled to Karimnagar, his wife followed them in a car.
