Vijayawada: Congress Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao demanded that the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu release a white paper and hold an open debate on Polavaram project at anywhere in the State.

He wrote a letter on Polavaram project to the Chief Minister here on Sunday.

Ramachandra Rao said in the letter that he Union government had an obligation to implement the AP Reorganisation Act and the promises made by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on the floor of Parliament for the welfare of AP people.

“The AP Chief Minister should reveal the BJP leaders’ blackmailing politics to the people of Andhra Pradesh regarding AP’ development projects,” he said.

He reminded that Y S Rajasekhar Reddy had conducted an open debate with all section of eminent personalities and general public at the projects sites regarding corruption allegations on different irrigation projects in the united State.

AP Congress Committee president N Raghuveera Reddy, in a separate letter to the Chief Minister on Sunday, alleged that Naidu had earned more than Rs 40,000 corers on just seven projects by hiking the project estimate costs from 2014 onwards in the State.

He also sought an open debate on the ‘large-scale’ corruption taking place in execution of irrigation projects in the State. Raghuveera Reddy alleged that Naidu’s supporters and benamis have been working in the projects for reaping the illegal benefits.

“The AP government is also getting ready to increase the project cost estimates only to benefit the ruling party leaders with a huge margin of money,” he added.

The PCC chief alleged that the State government had increased cost estimates of different projects from 2014 onwards. “The cost of Polavaram has been estimated from Rs 16,000 crores to 40,000, the Handri Neeva project balance works from Rs 6,850 to Rs 11,386 crores, Galeru-Nagari project from Rs 3,987 crores to Rs 7,986 crores,” he said.

Raghuveera Reddy also said that the Congress was throwing an open challenge to the Chief Minister for an open debate on corruption in irrigation projects in Andhra Pradesh.
