Nellore: Villagers who have been suffering due to lack of road connectivity for last 28 years, staged protest on Sunday driving out officials from the village, obstructing the scheduled Janmabhoomi programme. Kandulavaripalem SC Colony is a hamlet of Lakshmipuram panchayat in Kaligiri mandal.

The residents of the village were demanding better roads for decades. The villagers have to use foot path in fields and kutcha routes to reach the village.

The village is enveloped by patta lands of Kandulavaripalem and now the residents were opposing allocation of land for road to the colony. Miffed with the turnout of events the residents of SC Colony launched a full scale protest on Sunday.

“We have offered Rs 4 lakh to purchase land for the road but at the last moment, one villager backed out from the deal. It was an irrational decision on the part of officials, who allotted sites for the colony without making provision for road connectivity,” fumed Dammu Ramaiah, ex-sarpanch of the village.

Kaligiri tahsildar Prasad rushed to the spot and assured that the administration would arrange a meet on January 16 and finalise the issue.
