1,644 habitats in Telangana have no access to roads
Residents of the habitats in Telangana, especially expectant mothers, patients and school students, are facing many problems in reaching nearby towns and mandal headquarters.
Proposal to lay 801km-long roads in 486 hamlets costing 566 cr readied
Adilabad: There are 1,644 habitats in Adilabad, Asifabad, Nirmal and Mancherial districts with no proper roads.
Residents of the habitats, especially expectant mothers, patients and school students, are facing many problems in reaching nearby towns and mandal headquarters.
People have to negotiate rough and uneven terrains to reach nearby towns. There are no pathways either in many villages.
Despite repeated appeals to the state government, the hardships of the villagers continue. There are 478 habitats in 18 mandals of Adilabad district which do not have proper roads.
Surprisingly, there are no pathways in 84 habitats in the Adilabad Assembly constituency, represented by Minister Jogu Ramanna.
“People are facing problems to travel to far-off places on account of no proper roads,” said Santosh, a resident of Bela mandal.
Therefore, he appealed to the officials to provide road facility to remote villages. In Boath Assembly constituency, represented by Rathod Bapu Rao, there are no proper roads in 218 villages.
Dedra village in Bazar Hatnur mandal is just 20 km away from the mandal headquarters. A resident of the village said that people in case of ill-health will have to take a bullock-cart to reach hospital because no motorised vehicle is fit to ply on the pathways.
In Narnur and Gadeguda mandals, the condition of remote villages is alarming. The mandals are home to the highest number of tribals.
There are Kolamugudem and Nayikapugudem residents of which face many hardships to travel to nearby towns. Expectant mothers are facing a lot of problem in going to hospitals and reaching home.
The Panchayat Raj officials proposed to lay 1,055 km-long road in 478 villages at a cost of Rs 616 crore.
In the most backward district of Asifabad, people have to trek long distances to visit remote villages as there is no motorable road.
The people are facing a lot of problems passing through dense forests and hills.District Collector Champalal said that proposals seeking Rs 566 crore have been sent to the government to lay 801km-long roads in 486 habitats.
A resident of remote habitat Kondanna said that the people are not able to transport their essential commodities to remote village in Tiryani, Sirpur-T, Sirpur-U, Bejjuru, Koutala and Dahegoan mandals. School students are encountering many problems to reach their schools for want of roads.
In industrial district of Mancherial, there are 18 mandals. In Jannaram mandal, there are no roads to 17 habitats. People from the habitats have to cross rough and uneven terrains to reach neighbouring villages.
There are 19 habitats in Bimani mandal without roads, 20 habitats in Tandur mandal, 21 habitats in Vemanapalli mandal and 18 in Nennela mandal.
In fact, there are 114 villages without roads. Proposals have been sent to the state government to lay roads at a cost of Rs 230 crore.
In Nirmal district, there are 19 mandals. Kadem mandal, there are 18 villages. Of them Dharmajipet, Nawabpet and Madipedga remain aloof from other villages in the mandal because of lack of proper road communications.
The people of these villages have to spend one day to reach other villages. They bring essential commodities through bullock-carts. In the same mandal, 55 habitats are not properly linked with roads.
In fact, 34 habitats in Khanapur mandal, 41 in Pembi mandal, 25 in Kubir, 22 in Lokeswaram and 25 in Kuntala are not having road facility at all.
The district panchayat officials have identified that there are no roads to 318 villages.
Panchayat Raj regional superintending engineer Chandu Yadav said that proposals have been sent to the state government for laying the roads.
