Zaheerabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has announced that the State government was going to launch a new scheme to encourage institutional deliveries in government hospitals by rewarding the parents for doing so in Zaheerabad on Thursday.

He said that the scheme would be introduced during the budget session this year and funds would be allotted for the same. Speaking at the Government junior college in Zaheerabad, where he distributed Kalyana Lakshmi/ Shaadi Mubarak cheques to 215 beneficiaries of the scheme, he pointed out that the highest number of brides who got benefited by the prestigious scheme in Sangareddy district were in Zaheerabad.

As a total of 517 beneficiaries were given Rs 51,000 per head, the total amount spent by the State government in the constituency for the purpose amounting to Rs 2.63 crore till date.

Answering Congress MLA Geetha Reddy’s request to reconsider the discontinuation of Bangaru Thalli scheme which was introduced during the Congress government, he said that people had to wait for the girl child to turn 21 years old to reap the benefits of Bangaru Thalli scheme, whereas people could get immediate financial help from the government in case of Kalyana Lakshmi/ Shaadi Mubarak scheme.

He also said that the State government was spending Rs 72 crore to lay roads in the constituency and detailed out how much money was being spent on lying drains, power lines, sub-stations, minority residential schools, hostels and so on.

As Geetha Reddy requested the Minister to sanction a railway over-bridge near railway crossing on NH65 which has been causing heavy traffic jams, he immediately assured that Rs 68 crore would be sanctioned in this year’s budget to lay the bridge. He also assured that Zaheerabad-Bidar road would be made a four-lane road this year itself.

MLA Geetha Reddy who was also a guest at the cheque distribution ceremony brought to the notice of the Minister that an Urdu medium TTC was sanctioned during Congress government, which was yet to be started as it was stuck at SCERT. She also wondered what the reason was for not starting the hotel management college, the construction of which was completed two years ago.

She also stressed on the urgent need for framing rules for the implementation of SC/ST Sub-plan which had come during the Congress government, as funds were not reaching the respective departments due to which they were not being spent for the purpose they were intended for.

She also hoped the State government would speed-up works related to setting up of National Industrial Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) in Zaheerabad, for which the State government has been trying to acquire 12,500 acres of land in Jharasangham and Nyalkal mandals.

Appreciating the continuing efforts of TRS government for developing Zaheerabad constituency, she said, “Even though I belong to Congress party, I have to appreciate when the present State government or whoever does good work for the benefit of the people.” Zaheerabad MP BB Patil, MLC Mohd Fareeduddin, Municipal Chairperson Lavanya and others were present on the occasion.
