Telangana Education sector may get big budgetary push
Telangana Education sector is likely to get Rs 5,000 crore more allocation in the ensuing budget to ensure that the promises made by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao are fulfilled.
Hyderabad: Education sector is likely to get Rs 5,000 crore more allocation in the ensuing budget to ensure that the promises made by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao are fulfilled.
The Education sector in all may be given Rs 15,750 crore for the next financial year. The government is reportedly mulling spending Rs 5,000 crore for improving infrastructure.

During this financial year, the Chief Minister had made several promises to the people, which included construction of 210 residential schools, new buildings for schools and colleges, provision of basic amenities like running water, electricity, computer hardware, computer labs and other paraphernalia.
The government also promised to raise the honorarium of contract lectures, provision of midday meal in junior colleges and funds to the universities. Osmania University has sought Rs 200 crore for centenary celebrations.
The officials, who had a pre-budget meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, were told to submit proposals for construction of residential schools and buildings for schools and colleges.
As per the preliminary estimates, construction of residential schools would cost Rs 4,000 crore at the rate of Rs 20 crore per each one. Construction of buildings and providing infrastructure in schools and colleges may cost the government about Rs 1,000 crores.
This would take the total additional expenditure on creating infrastructure to Rs 5,000 crore. The government has decided to construct 210 residential schools for the benefit of Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Minorities.
It is part of the effort to fulfil the promise of providing free education from KG to PG. Source said the government is keen to build compound walls, additional rooms, desks, toilets, provide running water, science and computer labs to the schools so that the schools would get a complete face lift.
Recently it has launched digital classrooms all over the State in a limited number of schools. They will be extended to all and this needs provision of several amenities like TVs, computers, cable connection, power connection and others.
