Hyderabad: The locals and citizen groups are demanding the transport department officials to remove the unauthorized and illegal business of scrapping autos at Nagole RTA premises that is flourishing without permission.

The locals alleged that the department is not taking any steps even after complaints. The erstwhile Andhra Pradesh government imposed restrictions on issuing of new auto permits in Greater Hyderabad from 2002.

The new autos are given permits only if the old autos are condemned or scrapped with certification from the RTA authorities.

The auto owner should take a ‘Scrap proceedings letter’ issued by RTA authorities, which states that the old auto was scrapped and this would help in getting a new auto.

Taking the advantage of this rule, illegal business of scrapping autos is thriving at Nagole RTA office premises for the last five years, alleged the locals.

K Narasimha, a local resident complained that the illegal business owner was using gas cutting cylinders at the premises endangering the lives of the residence nearby.

He said that there is a school beside the RTA premises and questioned that if any untoward incident happens in the area, who should be held responsible?

He said that the RTA officials were turning a blind eye on this probable disaster even after complaints.
