Hyderabad: The Housing and Urban Development Corporation has agreed to give financial assistance of Rs 13.43 crore to Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) for replacing the existing fluorescent tubes with LED tubes at Bus Bhavan and Greater Hyderabad Zone depots.

RTC Chairman S Satyanarayana along with officials of the corporation met the HUDCO Chairman M Ravikanth and presented a detailed project report seeking assistance of Rs 13.43 crore.

The corporation wants to replace the existing fluorescent tubes with LED bulbs at Bus Bhavan, the headquarters and all the depots in the Greater Hyderabad Zone. The loan would be given by HUDCO under the CSR assistance.

The HUDCO Chairman handed over the sanction letter cum agreement of Rs 13.43 crore to RTC Chairman on Friday. According to RTC officials, this was taken up based on the energy conservation modes by the government.

The official said that the existing power consumption at Bus Bhavan and depots of Greater Hyderabad amounts to Rs 12 lakh per month. By shifting to LED lights, the power consumption would be reduced by 50 per cent and would save Rs 6 lakh per month on the power bill, which would be Rs 72 lakhs per year, said the official.

The LEDs have life span of up to 60,000 burning hours compared to 1,500 burning hours for incandescent bulbs and 6,000 burning hours of fluorescent tubes. Besides long lifespan of LEDs, maintenance cost is less compared to the traditional incandescent and fluorescent tubes, the official said.
