Hyderabad: Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Sunday said the present generation had forgotten the importance of Telugu culture and festivals and were getting more and more attracted towards the western culture.

Participating in the Kite Festival at Necklace Road in Hyderabad on Sunday, the Minister said there was a need for parents to teach their children about the festival, its importance and culture.

Many Telugu people who had gone to foreign countries were striving to promote our culture and traditions but here the younger generation was forgetting everything, the Minister said.

“A lot of youngsters depend on the parents who need to explain to them about the importance of our festivals and culture and how it helps in bringing a sort of bonding between the families and friends,” said Srinivas Yadav.

The Minister said after formation of Telangana, the State government had been celebrating festivals like Bathukamma, Bonalu and Sankranti on a grand scale and as State festivals. He said the government would celebrate Sankranti at Necklace Road next year.

He informed that representatives from about 18 countries were participating in the International Kite Festival being organised by the Tourism Department at Aga Khan Academy.

Culture Director Mamidi Harikrishna, Vijaya Reddy, Sheshu Kumari, P Jagan and others participated.
