Muslim quota Bill in Telangana budget session

KCR hopes that 12% quota gets President’s nod
Hyderabad: The Muslim Reservation Bill to provide 12 per cent reservations will be introduced in the Budget session of the State Assembly.
Announcing this while replying to a short discussion on minorities development, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao exuded confidence that the Act would get the consent of the President and 12 per cent reservations to minorities would be put in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution like in case of Tamil Nadu.
KCR said, “We can ask the Centre that when such provision was available in Tamil Nadu, why not in Telangana. We can also make the same argument in the Supreme Court and appealed to all parties to pass the bill unanimously when introduced.”
The Chief Minister said that the Sudhir Committee appointed to look into the issues of the minorities has toured the entire state and submitted its report to the BC Commission.
The Commission is gathering information from various sections. In order to provide 12 per cent reservations to Muslims (minorities) a relaxation should be given to the stipulation that the reservations should not exceed 50 per cent.
The government of Tamil Nadu had passed a bill in the Assembly to which the President of India had given consent and later with the consent of Parliament, got incorporated in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.
“We will follow the same policy in our state and put pressure on the Centre to accept the bill passed by the Assembly,” he said.
Earlier making a statement on activities taken up for the development of minorities, KCR said that the minorities have been subjected to discrimination and total neglect. The neglect faced by the minorities in the united AP.
Due to discrimination shown to minorities, they were subjected to socio-political and economic backwardness and oppression over the years. After the formation of the Telangana State sincere efforts are being made to remove insecurity among the minorities, instill confidence among them and protect their identity.
For the first in the annals of history, TS has allocated Rs 1,030 crore in the first State budget for the welfare and development of the minorities. The allocations were then hiked to Rs 1,204 crore in the same year.
The state government during 2016-17 academic year had opened 71 minority residential schools and another 129 will be started in the next academic year.
The Chief Minister promised to give Rs 1,500 monthly remuneration to Imams of the mosques to conduct religious programmes.
