SC, ST farmers to get sops
To promote farming activity among SC and ST communities and to make agriculture a profitable profession, State government has introduced a new scheme providing 95 per cent subsidy to the beneficiaries who adopt modern farming techniques and also promote horticulture.
Hyderabad: To promote farming activity among SC and ST communities and to make agriculture a profitable profession, State government has introduced a new scheme providing 95 per cent subsidy to the beneficiaries who adopt modern farming techniques and also promote horticulture.
Under the scheme, the SC and ST farmers would be provided financial assistance with 95 per cent subsidy to buy tractors and set up poly houses and shade net houses. Under agriculture- farm mechanisation, the beneficiaries can buy mini- tractors and set up custom hiring centres.
Assistance would also be provided to establish poly houses and shade net houses to promote horticulture. State Secretary to Agriculture department C Parthasarathi said that the funds would be provided for the implementation of the scheme from the SC and ST Sub Plan in the annual budget.
The official said that “government accorded permission for providing 95 per cent subsidy to the SC and ST farmers and the remaining 5 per cent to be met through bank loan or to be borne by the beneficiary.”
The official said that all the district Collectors have been asked to identify the beneficiaries and offer them training to adopt modern farm techniques before providing financial assistance. The SC and ST welfare departments were entrusted to take up a study on the status of farming activity among SC and ST communities and make suggestions for the effective implementation of the scheme.
