Adilabad: Setting aside bossism in the police department, District Superintendent of Police M Sreenivas demonstrated that the police personnel are a single family, though they differ in ranks, and watched the film ‘Head Constable Venkatramaiah’ at Ganesh theatre here on Thursday along with 230 and head constables in the district. In fact, the SP gave a day’s holiday for the head constables to watch the movie.

“Normally, the police work under a lot of pressure. A film show like this provides them a much-needed relief,” the SP said adding that it would help the police relax mentally and work with renewed enthusiasm.

The SP said while there were many movies based on the stories with top police officers as heroes, it was for the first time that a film has been made about the good work and honesty of a lower rank official, portrayed by people’s star R Narayana Murthy, as the central theme.

All head constables in Adilabad district of Telangana were on Thursday given a day's holiday to watch a Telugu movie. The movie is based on the story of a head constable and the character is played by R Narayana Murthy, described as a "people's actor". The film featuring Narayana Murthy and Jayasudha in the lead was released on January 14.

Responding to the SP’s decision, Armed Reserve Constable Venkatamma said policemen dread at the very sight of their boss. Watching a film along with the SP is a memorable occasion.

For first time she came across an incident in which the SP devoted some time thinking about the constables, a lower rung policeman, she said adding that it would help create a feeling that all policemen belong to the same family.

According to constable Paritosh, watching the film gave him an opportunity to interact with many colleagues, a phenomenon which had occurred during the stint of the police training.

According to constable Satyavati, very rarely the police personnel’s families gather at one place. Watching the film with at least three members from each family of each police personnel reminded us of a festive atmosphere. Another constable Ranjith said that the film portrayed all the problems which normally a head constable faces. He said that the film inspired him to discharge his duties sincerely.

Police Officers’ Association president SK Tajuddin said normally policemen enjoy only 15 leaves an year. In the first ever incident in the history of police department, the SP gave a day’s holiday on Thursday to enable the police head constables to watch the film. The head constables thanked the SP for giving them an opportunity to watch the film.
