Proposals to install 1,938 CCTV cameras in 78 railway stations i¬n South Central Railway through a special sanction of Rs 34.63 crore under Nirbhaya Fund has been floated. SCR has already installed CCTV surveillance systems at 42 stations in 2016 to control crime on the railway premises.

Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan littering of railway premises is viewed seriously and 21,127 people found littering were penalised and realised Rs 42 lakh from them, said Sanjay Sankrityayan, Inspector General-cum-Chief Security Commissioner of SCR Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Sanjay Sankrityayan stated that intensive checks are carried out regularly in trains and stations to provide hassle-free and secure rail journey to the passengers.
The RPF was escorting 200 vulnerable long journey trains every night for the safety and security of women and disabled passengers, said the Chief Security Commissioner interacting with the media today at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad. G M Eswara Rao, Addl. Chief Security Commissioner (RPF) and Senior RPF officials were also present.
During the year 2016, RPF received 732 complaints through all India Security Helpline number 182. The complaints were attended and timely assistance was rendered to resolve the grievances said the Chief Security Commissioner and called upon the media to create awareness o¬n the Security Helpline number 182 for optimal and judicious utilisation of the service.
He asked the people to be vigilant in station premises and in trains regarding any unattended luggage or any nuisance issue and any if observed shall be brought to the immediate notice of the RPF.
Timely sharing of information with RPF will go a long way in ensuring safety and security of passengers added the Chief Security Commissioner. RPF detected Rs 4.54 crore worth of property under IPC, Customs, Forests & other Acts during the year 2016.
Constant vigil and other pro-active measures taken have reduced unauthorised carrying of gold, silver, narcotics etc., through Railways.
In regards to rescue and rehabilitation of runaway children, RPF in coordination with local NGOs rescued 813 run away children who have been re-united with their families.
In order to curb the menace of unauthorised persons/touts and criminal elements in stations and trains, special drives were launched resulting in arrest of 134 touts and 1.09 lakh unauthorised hawkers were prosecuted.
RPF has also apprehended around 400 criminals, who were involved in theft of passenger belongings, he added.
