Hyderabad: Finance Minister Eatala Rajender on Friday urged the banking sector to provide required financial assistance to the development programmes launched by the government. Participating in the State Credit seminar conducted by NABARD (National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development) here, the minister said that the government has recently launched new sheep farming and fish farming ways to provide livelihoods to the people dependent on that particular profession.

If the banks come forward and offer loans, the beneficiaries would emerge as future entrepreneurs in the State. Asserting the need to strengthen the agriculture based economy in the newly formed Telangana, he said the financial institutions were providing loans liberally to poultry industry only. Despite the State achieving double digit growth this year , agricultural GDP was still low as the investments were not increasing in that
sector.

Rajender said the flagship programs like Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha had brought recognition to Telangana at national level as the Union government and other States are keen to emulate the Telangana State. Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said that the delay in releasing loans by the banks would affect the State’s progress. As a result, the government could not achieve the target in a time bound manner. He requested the financial institutions for the timely release of funds.
