Hyderabad: Gearing up to meet a substantial increase in demand for power in summer and to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers, the TS Transco has prepared a 100-day action plan, which would be implemented from February 1.

According to SPDCL director (operations) J Srinivasa Reddy, a survey is being conducted to identify the reasons behind frequent interruption in power supply. Based on the findings, the department would estimate the costs involved to rectifying probable issues. The entire exercise would be completed by February-end, he said.

This is being done following directions given by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao at a recent review meeting on uninterrupted power supply in rural and urban areas during summer. With summer not too far, the demand for power would start increasing soon. Even the demand from the agriculture sector would increase as Rabi operations would pick up now.

Reddy told The Hans India that, in order to provide uninterrupted power supply, the Discoms were taking up repair works in urban and rural areas. The rural areas were suffering from the problem of loose wires on distribution line network.

Senior officials said that in rural areas the distance between one pole and another was much more than the prescribed limit, resulting in loose (instead of taut) wiring.

As per the standards of wiring, the distance between one pole and the other should be between 40 metres and 60 metres. But in many cases it was around 120 metres.

The officials were surveying the distribution networks to know the areas where the wires were hanging and would provide one more pole between poles having loose wires. The officials were also estimating the load on the transformers, substations and other power supply equipment and would enhance their numbers according to the requirement.

In the Metro Zone (Hyderabad district) the officials were estimating a rise of about 10 per cent in power demand. Chief General Manager of Metro Zone Satish Kumar said that at present the demand was about 30 MUs per day and it could go up 34 MUs per day during the peak of summer.
