Hyderabad: Medical and Health Minister C Laxma Reddy on Saturday allayed fears over the prevalence of Swine Flu cases in the State. He assured the people that the Health Department was well prepared to deal with and provide effective treatment to the patients.
The Minister visited the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here on Saturday and inquired with doctors and attendants of the patients about the treatment being given to the patients from different parts of the State. Patients have been admitted in the emergency ward of the hospital for Swine flu and other ailments.
Later, speaking to the media, Laxma Reddy said the Swine Flu is a curable ailment and facilities to diagnose and provide effective treatment has been made available in all government run hospitals in the State.
“Medical kits to carry out diagnostic tests to identify Swine Flu and medicines needed have been stocked in all government hospitals. Besides, the number of Swine Flu cases registered and treatment given has been constantly monitored to take necessary steps, he added.
Laxma Reddy said “Seventy people have been identified positive of Swine Flu out of 5,700 diagnostic tests during the current year.”
While admitting that a few patients died of Swine Flu in the State, the Minister said it was due to failure in early identification of disease, delay in seeking treatment in time and admissions made in advance stages of the disease were among the reasons for the Swine Flu deaths in the State.
He appealed to people to visit the nearest government hospital in case of symptoms like severe fever, headache, knee pains, running nose, etc for early detection and treatment. Later, the Minister also inspected the facilities under construction to establish a catheterisation laboratory (Cath lab) and MRI facilities at the hospital.
NIMS Director K Manohar, Health University Vice-Chancellor Karunakar Reddy, Registrar T V Rao and NIMS doctors were present.
