Hyderabad: CPI (M) national General Secretary Sitaram Yechury has stressed the need to put up a united fight against RSS to protect the rights of Dalits and Minorities and thwart growing number of attacks against them.

Speaking at a public meeting jointly organised by Dalit Hakkula Sadhana Samithi, CPI(M), CPI, Republican Party of India (RPI) and other Dalit organisations here at Dharna Chowk, near Indira Park on Saturday, he said of late there had been growing incidents of atrocities on Dalits and Minorities in the country in the name of cow protection. Only way to stop attacks was to building people struggles across the country.

He said that the coming together of ‘Blue’ and ‘Red’ flags and the slogan of ‘Jai Bheem’ and ‘Lal Salam’ representing the Dalits and Left had a great relevance in building people’s struggles. Yechury said the public meeting was aimed at building people’s struggle to protect the rights of Dalits. Questioning the rationale behind the government for not disclosing the inquiry report into the suicide of Rohit Vemula, a research scholar of University of Hyderabad, he said they had even refused to give information under RTI.

Referring to the demonisation, the CPI (M) leader said the wealthy in the country had taken loans to the tune of Rs 11 lakh crore from the banks. But, the demonetisation did not touch any one of them and it was only the poor who had to bear the burden due to the economic highhandedness of the Centre, he said.

On the issue ‘triple talak,’ he alleged that attacks on Muslims and Minorities were on the raise. He predicted that the BJP would face the defeat in the UP elections after it suffered electoral debacle in Delhi and Bihar.

Prakash Ambedkar, a former MP and grandson of B R Amedkar, alleged the BJP led NDA government had been trampling on the rights of Dalits and tribal people in the country.
