Hyderabad: To curtail diversion of kerosene, the Civil Supplies Department has decided to ensure that all the transactions are made online from beginning of February.

Besides this, oil tankers carrying the essential commodity will be brought under the new monitoring mechanism of GPS (Global Positioning System).

About 11,500 kilo litres of kerosene on subsidy of Rs 8 per litre is being distributed every month.

However, several complaints on diversion of kerosene were reported during the last few years. Hence, the department has decided to attach GPS devices to tankers carrying kerosene.

During a meeting between Civil Supplies Department, oil companies and representatives of wholesale kerosene dealers on Wednesday, Commissioner of Civil Supplies C V Anand sought a better coordination between the authorities and dealers.

He noted that in view several complaints of ‘diversion,’ of the commoditiy, the NIC was asked to develop a software which would keep a tab on allocation to dealers both wholesale and fair price shops, online.

“At present the allocation, lifting and distribution of rice, sugar and other commodities, except kerosene, was being handle through online application ePDS (electronic Public Distribution System). It has been decided to bring the kerosene also under ePDS application,” he said.

During the meeting, wholesale dealers were cautioned of ‘stringent action’ if found indulging in diversion of kerosene.
