​Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister for Education Kadiyam Srihari on Wednesday desired that the past glory of Universities in the State should be restored and vice chancellor should take the responsibility.

Speaking to the vice-chancellors, in his chambers, he said that the VCs should prepare the proposals according to the needs of their respective universities as the Chief Minister has promised to give Rs 1000 crore to the universities.

He said that providing additional rooms and amenities in the new universities should be given priority, VCs should examine the issue of rising the superannuation age of professors and proposals on the promotions to university staff.

Srihari advised the VCs to come out with courses which would provide employment and could address the needs of the market. Certificate courses should be planned for students so that on completing the degree they could get job.

The vice-chancellors should explore the means to make the universities self sustainable and reports should be given on filling the posts in the universities according to courses and number of students.

The universities should plan a common academic calendar, UGC scales would be applicable only when appointments are given as per GO 14 and a report should be given on regularisation of contract lecturers.
