Hyderabad: The state government has created a record of sorts in completing the Bhakta Ramadasu irrigation project. According to officials, this is first of its kind project in the country to have been completed in a very short period of eleven months and would irrigate 60,000 acres.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will dedicate the project on January 31, which happens to be the birth anniversary of Bhakta Ramadasu. The Chief Minister has laid the foundation stone for this project on February 16, 2016 in Palair in Khammam district.

The project will cater to needs of hitherto parched Tirumalayapalem, Kusumanchi, Nelakondapally, Mudigonda and Khammam Rural mandals under the Palair Assembly Constituency represented by R&B Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and Dornakal mandal of Mahabubabad district.

Agriculture lands under Sriram Sagar project will also be irrigated by this project.

Under this Scheme 5.5 tmc ft of water from Nagarjunasagar Balancing Reservoir at Palair is pumped from a height of 125.700 metres to Sriram Sagar Project Stage II which is at a height of 187 metres and will be released at the 45th kilometre.

Land acquisition was done through GO NO 123 and was acquired within a short time. The farmers were given compensation immediately and they too have extended their full support.

Under the guidance of the Chief Minister, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and R&B Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao monitored the project’s works on a daily basis. This has resulted in completing 16.50 km length of main pipeline laying on a
record time.

The equipment like two motor pumps procured for the Indira Sagar Lift Irrigation Scheme, which were not in use, are being utilised for this project and Rs 90.87 crore is spent on other civil works, motors and pipelines. Trail run of the first pump, motor and pipeline was conducted on January 23, 2017 successfully.

According to irrigation experts, while from one side the project work was in progress, simultaneously, repair work on SRSP canal was undertaken.

In addition to supply of irrigated water through canal system, it is also planned to fill the tanks.

The groundwater levels will also go up and the entire climatic change in Palair area will change for better, the experts add.
