Medak: Republic Day honours the day on which the Constitution of India came into effect in January 1950.

However, officials in government offices seem to have forgotten Dr Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Chairman of the Drafting Committee of Constitution while celebrating the 68th Republic Day of India.

In all government offices Mahatma Gandhi’s photo has been garlanded in front of the tri-colour flag which was hoisted at their respective offices.

Though Mahatma Gandhi is the father of our nation, Dr Ambedkar has also been termed as the ‘Father of Modern India.’

People agree that the rights of the marginalised sections wouldn’t have been protected if not for the struggle pursued by Dr B R Ambedkar while the Constitution of India was being drafted.

Historians and writers have documented that top leaders who wanted the status quo to continue at the time tried their best not to let Dr Ambedkar have his say while drafting the constitution.

However, Dr Ambedkar succeeded in doing his best to safeguard the interest of the weaker sections of the society.

Unfortunately, those in government offices in Medak, Siddipet and other districts have forgotten the ‘Father of Modern India’ due to whom they got jobs through reservations.
