Tension lurked at Pulichintala project when farmers of Chintalapalem mandal tried to enter the premises of Pulichintala project

Suryapet: Tension lurked at Pulichintala project when farmers of Chintalapalem mandal tried to enter the premises of Pulichintala project demanding to maintain the 4 TMC water level in the project to protect the chilli crops cultivating in 13,000 acres under the lift irrigation projects established at upstream of the project. The farmers were restricted by the Andhra police at main gate of the project on Saturday.

Outraged farmers staged a sit out dharna at the main gate of project on violations of accords between the States. CPI Suryapet district leader Naryana Reddy speaking to media informed that the present water level in the project is only 1.5 TMC and the water has been releasing to downstream hampering the rights of upstream farmers.

He further informed that the crops in 13 villages in Mattapalli, Mallareddy gudem and Mellacheruvu mandal under Shiva Ganga lift irrigation project located at Vellatur in Suryapet district survive only if the water level in the project is maintained at 4 TMC. In view of this, government of Telangana should discuss the matter with AP government to save the crops of Telangana side, he added.
