Hyderabad: The stage is set for setting up 124 petrol bunks on the lands belonging to the Telangana Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).

According to Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, the HPCL and Indian Oil Corporation would set up 62 outlets each. This would help the TSRTC to generate more funds.

The Minister, while speaking at the KMPL awards function held here at Kala Bhavan on Monday, said the oil companies had come forward to establish petrol bunks on the open lands belonging to the TSRTC.

He congratulated the drivers, who had achieved more than 6 km mileage per litre and asked them to share their experiences with the new entrants.

RTC Chairman S Satyanarayana said services in the Greater Hyderabad zone were incurring losses to the tune of Rs 450 crore and the main reason for this was the movement of the buses was very slow in the city due to heavy traffic.

If the buses can have separate lanes, more revenue can be generated. He said because of the use of bio diesel the TSRTC was saving Rs 6 crore every year on the diesel.

RTC MD G V Ramana Rao said there were 1,170 drivers who managed to ensure that the buses did 6 km to a litre. Similarly, there were 8,862 drivers who are having kmpl of 5.3 to 6 and 7350 drivers with 4 to 5 km per litre.

Executive Director M Ravinder said the TSRTC was buying diesel worth Rs 1,000 crore every year. He stressed the need to conserve the fuel and it would depend on the efficiency of the drivers. HPCL Chief Area Manager K Chandra Mauli said almost all the depots were having direct supply of diesel from HPCL.
