Hyderabad: Hey Auto! This call that we are so used to hail auto-rickshaw will soon become a thing of the past. uberMOTO, a bike sharing product, has hit town on Monday.

Priced Rs 25 for the first three km and Rs 5 per km thereafter, passengers need to download the Uber app for IOS or Android and create an Uber account. Existing users can update their app to see the new product.

uberMOTO drivers will have a helmet handy for the rider and it is mandatory for all riders and drivers to wear helmet. Payment can be made by cash, credit/debit card or mobile wallet and receives an electronic receipt via the Uber app.

uberMOTO will be available from 8 am to 10 pm every day in parts of Kondapur, Hitech City, Madhapur and Gachibowli.

K T Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration, at the product launch said, “We recently achieved the top spot in ease of doing business in India, which is a testament to our strong belief in making Telangana State a start-up leader in India.

Uber had added another feather in our partnership today by launching uberMOTO to help solve the transportation and congestion problems for people in Hyderabad and I am hopeful that this service would help people in reaching their destination quickly and conveniently.”

Travis Kalanick, Founder and CEO, Uber, said “I am excited to be in Hyderabad for the launch of uberMOTO. It’s a quick, easy and affordable way to get around the city. And it’s great to be working with a progressive, forward thinking government on smart mobility solutions that can help reduce congestion in urban areas.”

Safety features during and after the ride include requisite insurance coverage which covers the riders, GPS tracking, two-way feedback and the ability to share trip details with family and friends.

In addition, Uber and Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to help extend the reach of the metro using uberMOTO.
