Sources say Chandrashekar Rao expressed his unhappiness during the Cabinet meeting

Hyderabad: The Telangana government seems to be unhappy over the allocations made to the State in the Union Budget-2017.

Though Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao did not comment on the Union Budget before media, he is understood to have expressed his unhappiness during the Cabinet meeting on Thursday.

According to sources, Chandrashekar Rao is said to have remarked that he had expected substantial allocations to the State so that it could carry forward its flagship programmes.

Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, soon after the State Cabinet meet, told some reporters that the Union government had come to the aid of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh but ignored Telangana.

“Telangana has gained nothing from the Union Budget. The budget completely ignored the best programmes being implemented by the Telangana government.

The Centre seems to be favouring only AP. There is no mention of fulfilling the promises made to the State in the AP State Reorganisation Act 2014,” he said. While AP was sanctioned AIIMS, it had not considered the same for Telangana, he said.

He felt that some more allocations should have been made to Telangana, and urged the Centre to consider the requirements of the new State and take corrective measures.

Commenting on the Union Budget, he said, “As a whole, it looked good but we strongly feel that the State should have been given a better deal and more funds should have been allocated.”

Rajender further said, “State government's flagship programmes such as Mission Bhageeratha, Mission Kakatiya, Haritha Haaram and residential schools to weaker sections received accolades from the Centre at various strata.

Several Union Ministers had praised these projects saying that they stand as good examples for the entire country but failed to allocate any fund.”
