​Hyderabad: The state cabinet on Thursday approved the proposals pertaining to re-engineering of irrigation projects and has decided to make changes in laws to hand out stringent punishment to offenders in acid attack cases.

The meeting chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for over three hours decided to adopt a resolution to provide 12 per cent reservation to Muslims and increase reservation for tribal community during the ensuing budget session, setting up of a Fisheries College at LMD Karimnagar and filling up of posts in different departments.

With regard to the proposed stringent punishment for offenders in acid attack cases the government will make changes in existing laws to ensure that those convicted for acid attacks are sentenced to 10 years in jail.

The government proposes to give fine collected from convicts to the family members of victims. A Cabinet sub-committee, headed by Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, has been appointed to study the proposed reforms in jails.

IT minister KT Rama Rao, Finance Minister Eatala Rajender and Housing Minister Indrakaran Reddy will be its members. Following the completion of Bhakta Ramdas Lift Irrigation Scheme much ahead of the schedule, the Chief Minister has constituted a committee comprising Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, Deputy CM K Srihari and Roads and Buildings Minister T Nageshwara Rao to study the pending lift irrigation schemes in the state.

The cabinet gave its nod to take Rs 7,800 crore as loan from Andhra Bank for Kaleswaram project, the 3-member committee would study the status of Mid Manair, Devadula, Sitarama and Pakala lift irrigation projects.

A Reservoir will be constructed at Malkapur in Station Ghanpur Constituency to stabilize Devadula Ayucut. Instead of Kanthanapally Barrage, a barrage will be constructed at Tupakulagudem on Godavari River.

Rajiv Sagar and Indira Sagar projects have been abolished. Sources said that the cabinet discussed the outcome of the Sudhir Committee report on Muslim reservation and Chellpa commission report on ST reservations.

It proposes to introduce a resolution on the particular issue in the budget session of the Assembly. The cabinet ratified 480 posts under Mission Bhagiratha, 360 posts, including doctors and paramedical staff in the Mahbubnagar Medical College and creations of 25 primary health centres and 60 posts.

The cabinet also decided to shift surplus staff in several departments to departments where there was more workload. The cabinet decided to expedite measures for construction of 2BHK houses in the State.

The construction of government offices and offices of the Police Department will be completed within a year. The cabinet ratified the long-pending promotion of 2,487 Language Pandits and 1,045 PETs as school assistants.
