Vikarabad: District Collector Divya appealed to the people’s representatives to extend their support in making Vikarabad an open defecation-free district by October 2, 2018.

She explained the importance of individual toilets to the representatives of various mandals of the district through a PowerPoint Presentation at the Collectorate here on Friday.

She asked them to take steps to ensure construction of toilets in Anganwadi centres and schools. She advised them to get inspired by Chhattisgarh which constitute 40 per cent tribes and which had 70 per cent toilets.

The Collector explained how groundwater level can be boosted by implementing rain harvesting methods. She asked them to approach Revenue officials for allocation of land for dumping yards in all the villages.

She directed them to create awareness on segregation of dry and wet waste. “The government has sanctioned Rs 50 lakh towards repairing works for 70 schools under 21 village panchayats.

Schools should be white washed and school walls should be painted with pictures to attract students’ attention,” she added. She also said extra funds would be sanctioned if necessary. 15 per cent of the village panchayat funds should be used for the facilities of women and children.

Distirct Educational Officer Deepika, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Executive Engineer Sunitha, DRDO Johnson, MPP President Bhagya Lakshmi, ZPTC Mukhtar Sharif and sarpanchs of various villages were among those participated.

The Collector also urged businessmen for their cooperation in improving cleanliness in the villages at a separate meeting held with traders and district officials at her chamber in the Collectorate.

Sai Krishna Dental College principal Ramesh Sinha, Brungi International principal Rama Devi, GMRV foundation representative Durga Prasad, Telangana Builders’ Association president Lakshmi Kanth Reddy, TSKVBI representatives Hari, M Nayak and many others from various organisations participated in the meeting.
