Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police on Friday took two persons into custody for performing the marriage of their minor children on February 1. The arrests were made when other customary events were being carried out.

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police on Friday took two persons into custody for performing the marriage of their minor children on February 1. The arrests were made when other customary events were being carried out.

The police received information that a girl aged 13 got married to a 16-year-old boy at Veda Pathashala in Pedda Amberpet of Hayathnagar police station limits on February 1 and other customary events were being performed on Friday.
Immediately, a police team rushed to the place and stopped the customary events and picked the fathers of both the children.

During the preliminary questioning, the police found that V Muralikrishna of Banjara Hills and Ramesh Sharma of Vemulawada had performed the marriage of their son and daughter respectively.

Since child marriage was a punishable offense, a case was registered under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006 against the parents and others involved in it, the police said adding that the kids would be sent to rescue home after producing them before the Child Welfare Commission.
