​Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy on Saturday has appealed to the Traffic Police, Roads and Buildings, Cantonment Board and other related heads of the departments to take up all precautionary measures on a war-footing basis to avert road accidents. He said the civic body had already identified as many as 85 accident prone areas across the city.

Speaking at convergence meeting held at Secunderabad Cantonment Board, the GHMC Commissioner pointed out to the freak accident at Bowenpally which claimed two lives and also said that more 15 accidents were reported in the same area.

He asked the Roads and Buildings Department officials to take up road zebra markings, lane markings and remove 600 electrical poles which are on the roads obstructing the traffic. He was informed by the officials that that a total of 109 electrical poles were already removed.

Commenting on the 2BHK housing project, the Commissioner had asked officials to ensure that the residents in notified slums vacate to facilitate building of houses. He said the construction of the housing scheme should be taken up in a time-bound manner and suggested that that a senior officer must be allotted to each slum to take up the works on priority.

"The works pertaining to Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Valmiki Ambedkar Awaas Yojana (Vambay) and other schemes should be taken up immediately. In Ahmed Nagar tender process for 4,000 double bedroom houses had been completed and directed the officials to take up the constructions immediately", he said.

GHMC commissioner urged the SCB officials to take up road widening and other works in the cantonment area on priority. Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board managing director M Dana Kishore said that a total of 700 km pipeline works had been completed.
