Hyderabad: The much-awaited Sub-Plan of SCs and STs will be rechristened as “Special Progress Fund” and it is being planned to spend the remaining funds unspent after allocation during next year which used to get lapsed during previous regimes.

This was stated at a review meeting by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari on Saturday. He discussed pros and cons of the Sub-Plan which aims to empower Dalits and Tribals economically.

Srihari said that special development funds will not be used for Dalits and Tribals and only allotted funds are to be used. It was proposed to see that the Sub Plan comes up with comprehensive plan by taking suggestions from Dalit scholars, intellectuals, IAS and other top officials.

After that a detailed report on the amendments and allocation of funds will be submitted to the government for its approval, he said.

‘We have discussed with officials various issues on the needed amendments to the Sub Plan, plan, funds allocation and to spend funds directly to the families to get financial boost.

The government is committed for social inclusion of Dalits and Tribals and the amendment to the sub plan prove handy, he hoped.
