Hyderabad: Telangana has emerged a leader in the life sciences sector and the new State provides immense scope for further industrial growth, said Governor E S L Narasimhan on Monday.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 14th edition of BioAsia – the annual flagship event of biotechnology and life sciences. This year, the theme of the three-day conference is ‘Power of the Past, Force of the Future’.
On the occasion, Narasimhan presented Genome Valley Excellence Award to Nobel laureate Kurt Wuthrichand and Paul Stoffels, Worldwide Chairman Pharmaceuticals and Chief Scientific Officer of Johnson & Johnson for their immense contribution in the field of life sciences and healthcare, BioAsia said in a statement.
“Telangana has emerged a leader in the life sciences sector and has immense scope for further industrial growth. Since its beginning in 2014, BioAsia as a platform has been instrumental for the Government to invite global investors and business leaders, showcase the extraordinary infrastructure available in the state and attract investments,” he said.
K T Rama Rao, Minister of IT and Industries, said the State capital has always been known as a top pharma destination worldwide.
Hyderabad is and will remain a pharma production and innovation hub for the world and the proposed Pharma City will strengthen its position significantly, Rao said.
The inaugural ceremony of BioAsia 2017 witnessed strategic partnerships and investment announcements of around Rs 3,382 crore, the release said.
Over 1,500 delegates from nearly 50 countries are taking part in the convention.
