Mahbubnagar: The roads and drainages in the district lay in pathetic conditions as the authorities pay least attention to complete the ongoing works.

The municipal authorities both at the Municipality and Grama Panchayati level are least bothered to clear the accumulating waste dumps and overflowing drainages across the district.

Though the situation of drainage and waste dumping system is better in the headquarter town of Mahbubnagar, the situation in the surrounding villages and major towns like Devarakadra, Marikal, Makthal, Koilkonda, Kosgi and Midjil is in pathetic conditions.

Not just the drainage and waste dumping system, the radial roads that connect these towns to Mahbubnagar district are also rendered with thousands of pot holes making it difficult for regular commuters.

“We have been facing a harrowing situation with the overflowing drainages. These conditions have rendered pigs in making these open drains their homes which is leading to breeding grounds for mosquitoes and emanating pungent smell that is making the entire area prone to diseases,” said Raghuveer Kumar, a resident of Vasivi Nagar in Devarkadra Mandal.

Coming to the situation of roads, the road connecting Mahbubnagar to Devarkadra is faced with frequent accidents because of huge potholes on the stretch extending from Palamuru University to Jayaprakash Narayana College of Engineering.

Similarly the road stretching from SVITS engineering college to Devarkadra Mandal is also in a bad state with numerous potholes making travel on the road a difficult task.

“Travelling on this road is like adventure, we not only need to focus on dodging deep potholes but also the narrow road stretch has become a killer at the sharp curves.

Recently many people have been killed due to accidents on this road, we appeal the government to take immediate steps to widen this stretch immediately,” says Abdul Razzak, an Auto driver who daily ferries students of Engineering college on this stretch.

In fact, in 2016 the Central government had accorded National Highway status to the road from Jadcherla to Mahbubnagar connecting Devarkadra, Marikal, Narayanpeta and Raichur.

The NH authorities even widen the roads and laid concrete on one side of the road stretch from Jadcherla to Mayuri Nursari, however after that no further activity was seen on this road.

The entire stretch connecting Jadcherla and Mahbubnagar has also been rendered with potholes.

The fate of roads of Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool and Gadwal districts of the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district is no different. The Road connecting Wanaparthy to Kollapur, which is under construction, has been damaged and the construction authorities have not provided alternative roads to the commuters which is costing them time for travel.

“The contractor is saying it will take 6 months to 1 year to complete the road works. This has become tough for us to travel. We plead the authorities to complete them on war footage and relive the travellers,” said Rathlavath Raju, an ex-Sarpanch from Wanaparthy district.

When contacted E Sridhar, district Collector, on the conditions of Road in Nagarkurnool district he said, “We are focusing on upgrading all roads in the district.

Road connectivity is still at the nascent stage in the district and we have earmarked a good amount for the construction of all roads in the district. It will take one or two years to complete them all and we are hoping things will fall in line soon.”
