Adilabad: There is no TSRTC bus service to at least 313 villages in Adilabad, Nirmal, Asifabad and Mancherial districts.

There is no service to at least 50 villages in Adilabad district, 74 in Mancherial district, 95 in Asifabad and 42 in Nirmal district.

In Adilabad, Utnoor, Nirmal, Bhainsa, Asifabad and Mancherial depots in the four districts, the RTC runs 628 buses, including 184 under hire to the transport undertaking.

The people living in these remote habitats have no links whatsoever with the outside world. If they want to go out in case of emergency, they have no choice except availing private transport- three-wheelers, jeeps and others. Otherwise, they have to go by foot.

The population under Utnoor RTC depot is about three lakhs. But only 16,000 are availing the public transport.

A tribal leader Mestram Tirupati expressed anguish that residents of Narsapur B, Allampalli and Lendiguda are going out on foot to take care of emergency works for want of public transport facility.

Another tribal leader Madavi Bhujanga Rao alleged that the RTC officials are not running buses even though some villages have pucca road facility.

He pointed out that schoolchildren travelling by private vehicles are susceptible to road accidents. He is appealing to higher authorities to take steps to run RTC buses to tribal hamlets.

In Mancherial district, only 64,000 are availing the public transport. There is no bus service to many villages in Nennela, Bheemini, Vemanapalli and Chennur mandals.

The people have directing their ire on RTC officials for not honouring their demand for a RTC bus depot at Bellampalli.

In Nirmal district, there is no bus service to remote and hilly hamlets of Kubeer, Kuntala and Tanur mandals. In the most backward Asifabad district, only 34,000 are availing the public transport. People of Gundala in Tiryani mandal would have to trek long distances to reach other areas.

Asifabad ZPTC Hemaji expressed concern at people facing difficulties for want of a bus service to many villages in Keramery, Wankidi and Asifabad rural mandals.

They have problems in taking vegetables cultivated to markets, she said appealing to RTC authorities for a bus service to the tribal areas. RTC regional manager Rajendra Prasad clarified that out of 1,750 villages in the four districts, 1,437 villages have the bus facility.

Bus services to the rest of 313 could not be run because they are located in hilly areas and for want of pucca roads.

He maintained that 19 mini-buses have been sanctioned to run bus services to remote and inaccessible areas.

They are allotted to Bhainsa (1), Nirmal (3), Adilabad (1), Utnoor (4) and the rest to Mancherial depot (10).

He said that the RTC would provide bus service to inaccessible villages provided there is a pucca road facility.
