​Hyderabad: The State government has sought Rs 1,000 crore grant to develop infrastructure in the Maoists affected districts in the State during the financial year 2017-18.

The Central government has already allocated grant to the tune of Rs 1,290 crore for developing infrastructure in the districts bordering Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. These include remote areas of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam.

Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, who undertook a two-day visit to new districts of Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Bhupalpally and Komarambheem-Asifabad, held a review meeting on Wednesday.

While discussing the developments in the areas, he directed the officials to come up with proposals for another Rs 1,000 crore worth of works to be taken up in the Maoists affected areas.

Further, he also asked the officials to complete the remaining works at the earliest. He also instructed the officials to pursue the Centre on releasing Rs 300 crore under LWE (Left Wing Extremism) Areas scheme.

The Minister also asked the officials to prepare proposals for upgrading 15 State Highways (stretching 1,500 km) into National Highways. In his letter addressed to the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, the Minister sought Rs 759 crore for improving the conditions of existing highways.

These include construction of “vehicle underpass” (VUP) and “passenger under pass” (PUP) by tweaking existing Highways for averting any kind of accidents. He also sought Rs 400 crore from Centre for widening roads which are causing regular road accidents.
