Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Thursday instructed the officials to ensure adequate power supply to farmers during current Rabi season.

GENCO and TRANSCO CMD D Prabhakar Rao informed the Chief Minister that the demand has peaked to 8,500 MW per day presently and it might shoot up to 9,500 MW next month. The department was ready to meet such demand.

Responding to this, the Chief Minister said, “We have received good rains. Due to Mission Kakatiya there is water in abundance in the tanks.

There is an increase in the groundwater table to about 8 metres. Water is being drawn from borewells to the maximum extent. There is more demand for power now.”

Earlier, the demand was in the range of 2,500-3,000 MW a day, but this Rabi season witnessed the demand going up to 4,500 MW and it may escalate to 5,000 MW by the next month.

The total requirement may increase to 10,000 MW. Besides providing adequate water to the agriculture sector, measures should be taken to supply power without imposing power cut on industry and domestic sectors, the Chief Minister added.
