Hyderabad: The CCTV cameras installed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have remained dysfunctional for the past four months. Officials claim that the private agencies entrusted to the maintenance of CCTV cameras in GHMC have stopped their services due to non-payment of pending bills worth Rs 3 lakh.

The CCTV cameras were installed to curb irregularities in the sanitation wing at transfer stations near Imliban and Tank Bund. Besides this, the GHMC also installed three CCTV cameras at GHMC parking yards at Kavadiguda, Khairatabad and Malakpet. They are intended to record arrival and departure of vehicles carrying garbage, quantity of garbage brought, driver working hours and others reasons.

When queried about the same, a senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the erstwhile in-charge officer in the IT wing had now been transferred as District Collector after district reorganisation in October last year.

The GHMC official also said the CCTV cameras have remained dysfunctional for the four months. The official added that he would ensure that the pending bills pertaining to CCTV cameras are cleared at the earliest.

However, highly placed sources in the GHMC said the Interactive Data Systems Pvt. Ltd has been maintaining the CCTV cameras in dumping yards and parking. Sources said the private agency has quoted Rs 3 lakh annually in order to maintain CCTV cameras.

Sources also said that the officials had disowned responsibility to clear the pending bills because of which the agency had stopped its services in October.
